As the eighth largest city around the world, Shanghai is an independent City administered directly by the central government. It is a bustling metropolis with a total area of 6,341 square kilometers and the largest and the most populous city in China. Shanghai located at latitude 31° 14' N and longitude 121° 29' E, occupies the front edge of the Yangtze River Delta and faces the East China Sea at the mouth of the Yangtze River...


Shanghai Weather & Climate

The highest temperature is in July and August. In these two months, the temperature can reach 28 degrees centigrade. The coldest period is from the end of January to early February - usually during the Chinese Spring Festival. This awfully cold period will last for about three days but it seldom snows. From March to May, the conditions are pleasant so this is the best season for traveling. The 'Plum Rain Season' is from mid-June to early July. From late August to the first twenty days of September, the city is also susceptible to typhoons, none of which in recent years has caused considerable damage. Generally you will need a light coat and sweater in spring and short- sleeved shirts in summer. In autumn, long-sleeved shirts, sweater and coat are necessary, while sweater and overcoat are appropriate in winter.

The People’s Square, Shanghai Museum, Yuyuan Garden and Chenghuang Temple are around 2 kilometers away from the Bund. It takes around 15 minutes and costs around 15 RMB to go to one of the four attractions by taxi from the Bund.
The Jade Buddha Monastery, Xintiandi and Former French Concession are around 7 kilometers away from the Bund. It takes around 30 minutes and costs around 30 RMB to go to one of the three attractions by taxi from the Bund.
The Disneyland Resort is 30 kilometers away from the Bund. It takes around 40 minutes and costs around 100 RMB to go there from the Bund by taxi.

Shanghai Metro & Maglev Train
Shanghai has an extensive public transport system, largely based on buses, taxis, and a rapidly expanding metro system. All of these public transport tools can be accessed using the Shanghai Public Transportation Card. The Shanghai Metro rapid-transit system and elevated light rail has 11 lines (numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,7, 8 ,9,10 and 11) at present and extends to every core urban district as well as neighbouring suburban districts such as Songjiang and Minhang. It is one of the fastest-growing systems in the world - the first line opened in just 1995. Shanghai also has the world's most extensive bus system with nearly one thousand bus lines, operated by numerous transportation companies. Not all of Shanghai 's bus routes are numbered - some have names exclusively in Chinese. Bus fares are usually ¥1, ¥1.5 or ¥2, sometimes higher, while Metro fares run from ¥3 to ¥9 depending on distance.


Shanghai Taxi
Taxis in Shanghai are plentiful and market competition has driven taxi fare down to affordable prices for the average resident (¥14〈 ¥18 after 11pm 〉for the first 3 kilometers).
Most cabbies know their way around and expertly negotiate the city's busy traffic. Taxis are usually readily available, but hailing one in rush hours is difficult and on rainy days almost impossible.
